November Updates from the BCU

In keeping with our educational mission, the BCU recently hosted the CDC to film a set of infection prevention training videos in conjunction with HEIC. It was a great opportunity to show off the unit, meet leaders from the CDC and share our unit and expertise with a national audience.

CDC filmingAdditionally, the BCU hosted its latest Quarterly Staff Meeting on Friday, November 11 and had the pleasure of hearing from Sheri Lewis, MPH. Sheri is the program area manager of the JHU/APL National Health Mission Area. The JHU Applied Physical Laboratory recently created a National Health Mission Area to bring focus to programs designed to predict and prevent illness, injury and disease; rapidly detect and respond to changes in health status; restore and sustain health and improve overall health and human performance. The group was very interested in the cutting edge research and innovation APL is engaged in and enjoyed hearing about some of the projects the BCU and APL are collaborating on. Thank you to Sheri for joining us!

December will be a busy month for the BCU team, and not just because of the upcoming holidays! On December 15, we will be conducting our quarterly live action drill transferring a patient from JH Bayview Medical Center to JHH and performing on-unit activities with live actors and high fidelity simulation. Later that evening, we will be hosting our BCU Holiday Party to celebrate a successful drill and a successful year. Details will follow in the coming weeks.

We wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving!
