The new Maryland rule requiring prior authorizations for opioids goes into effect Saturday, July 1. Epic has updated to support this new workflow with a standard Opioid Agreement and the prior authorization forms for both Maryland Medicaid and Priority Partners. If you have a patient on another Medicaid MCO plan, you will need fill out the form specific to that plan.
Oncology, Sickle Cell, Hospice and Palliative Care patients with the ICD10 code for Palliative Care are eligible for a lifetime authorization, but you will still need to submit the authorization form. Priority Partners agreed to accept a bulk file, so you won’t have to submit exemption requests for that patient population. Once we receive the authorization it will be added as a Health Maintenance topic so you can check before prescribing to see if that patient is covered.
