Sharing successes, challenges and daily happenings in the Department of Medicine

Medicine Matters Home Nursing Matters Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! It certainly is an exciting time of year. We’ve added quite a few new staff, nurses and nursing leaders to the team. In fact, Kevin Sowers, a nurse, was just appointed President of The Johns Hopkins Health System. As we begin the new year, the leadership team and I look forward to continuing to make the Department of Medicine a great place to work. We are close to finalizing a new PACE salary structure, and the permanent scheduling structure to address a better work-life balance is almost in place. As we move forward together, we will continue to need your support to identify those additional steps to help transform the department to be the very best. At the end of the day, nursing is the heart and soul of what we do. I am excited for what the year has in store for us, and I look forward to working with you!

A message from our new Patient Experience Coach:

Pritchett, Nicole

My name is Nicole Pritchett and I am the new Patient Experience Coach for the Department of Medicine. I look forward to meeting each of you to hear about the great work you do every day. I’m excited to partner with each of your respective units to learn more about the culture of your unit and your patient population and to support you in continuing best practices in a way only Hopkins is able to execute. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me for your patient experience questions and concerns. I can be reached at npritch1@jhmi.edu. I hope to see you very soon!

Department of Medical Nursing Diversity Council Annual Holiday Drive Results:

Our Third Annual Diversity Council Holiday Drive, benefiting the children and families of Henderson-Hopkins K-8 School, concluded last month and was wildly successful!

We were able to provide ALL of our 30 assigned children with toys and holiday gifts. We also received additional gift donations above and beyond what was requested. Our efforts specifically supported families partnered with the Henderson-Hopkins Family Stabilization Program and additional gift donations went directly to that program.

All in all, we collected 678 useable items for the families of the Henderson-Hopkins Family Stabilization Program!

We experienced strong participation across the entire department. Thank you unit-specific Diversity Champions for really getting the word out and encouraging people to donate! Thank you Anastasia English, Ma Fernandez, Shaneisha McMillan, and Michael Daza for helping to wrap gifts! And, thank you again, to Michael Daza for helping to deliver supplies to the school.

Kudos to all for demonstrating that our desire to care goes beyond our unit doors!
