Lennon Named Director of the Division of Gastroenterology

It is my pleasure to announce that Anne Marie Lennon will be the next director of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She has accepted the position after serving as interim director since February 1.

Anne Marie is professor of medicine, oncology, radiology and surgery. She earned her medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and her doctorate from the National University of Ireland. She then completed internal medicine residency training at the Mater Hospital in Dublin and the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, followed by a gastroenterology fellowship in Edinburgh, Scotland. Anne Marie came to Hopkins to complete a two-year Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship in endoscopic ultrasound and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and joined the faculty in 2010. Dr. Lennon is a renowned and highly productive researcher, and was recently elected to the American Society of Clinical Investigation, a highly selective national organization honoring physician scientists.

Since joining the faculty, Anne Marie spearheaded the establishment of the first-ever Multidisciplinary Pancreatic Cyst Program. She continues to direct the program, whose multidisciplinary approach has become the standard of care in centers across the U.S.. She is an accomplished administrator, and has served as clinical director of the division since 2017. She has proven to be a valuable leader and mentor, not only during her time as interim director, but throughout her Hopkins career. Last year, she began the Mary Elizabeth Garrett Executive Leadership Program for Women Faculty Program from the Johns Hopkins Office of Women in Science and Medicine.

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is a large and complicated division, and I am happy to leave it in Dr. Lennon’s capable hands. Her talents span across research, education and patient care alike, and I am confident she will continue to grow the division’s success in each. Please join me in congratulating Anne Marie on her new role and thank her for her continued contributions to our department.
